It's the next best thing to an industrial hemmer. Most of us can't afford a hemmer, but you can very similar effects with the blind hem stitch. How to Contact Artistic WindowsHome owners should keep balance and its three styles (symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial) in mind when designing their homes. Symmetrical balance refers to the repetition of the same objects in the same positions. A popular style in interior design, asymmetrical balance refers to the placement of dissimilar objects to suggest movement. On the other hand, radial symmetry uses a central area as the focal point in the room. Designers can use spiral staircases or fireplaces to achieve this sort of symmetry. The one thing I want to say about this stitch is practice before you use this technique on your projects. The thicker your material... the trickier this stitch is... so practice... and worse case scenario you hand stitch the hem or straight stitch it.1. Lay your fabric with the folded hem facing up with the outer folded edge of the hem pointing toward your sewing machine.

Easy Ways to Transform a Room

(Family Features) Updating a living room or family room doesn't have to mean giving it a complete makeover. A few simple changes can transform a tired room into a fresh space in no time.

You will also find that there are many different materials to select from when purchasing blinds. Some of the most common include aluminum, wood, vinyl and metal. You will also have different styles to choose from, including cellular shades, cordless shades and roman shades. In addition, you will be able to choose from between vertical blinds and horizontal blinds, both of which create a different look in the space. So, be certain to explore all of your style and color options before making a purchase.Replace an outdated furniture item.ZENA SAYS: There are two things that make a room warm and welcoming - good lighting and texture. Table, floor and wall lights all add warmth - but ceiling lights are harsh and cold. Choose a low- level warm orangey bulb and a dark shade. You could add texture here if your shade is made from suede, velvet or brushed fabric in red, orange, brown or camel. Parchment paper always works for me, too. Patterned rugs add interest and texture, as do Roman blinds instead of curtains. Add a few little touches that your partner might not notice - like a tassled blind cord pull, a woven waste bin or canvas wall art.Shutters and blinds can also help to soundproof your conservatory. Choosing Blinds and Shades for Your Conservatory

A conservatory can add value and interest to your home. In fact, it is possible to enjoy a 100% return on your investment when installing bespoke conservatories when you sell the home later. Enjoying these conservatories, however, requires more than just simply constructing the structure. Rather, you have to consider accessories and the other extras that make the conservatory more functional and attractive all at the same time. Since conservatories contain numerous windows, one of the most important accessories you need to consider is the blinds or shades you will use in your new space.

There are numerous characteristics to consider when selecting your blinds and shades. Obviously, you will want to select the color that is best suited to the dcor of your conservatory. In addition, you will need to consider the size of your shades or blinds. In some cases, it may be necessary to purchase shades or blinds that have been custom made to fit the conservatory. This will add to the cost of constructing your conservatory, so be certain to budget the cost accordingly. In addition to making your conservatory look more attractive and blocking out the sun when necessary, shades and blinds can serve other purposes as well. For example, they can be helpful when it comes to maintaining a certain temperature in the conservatory and, during the winter, the material can serve as an insulator and help keep the room warm.Instead of the hanging a large mirror in a traditional space, such as above a couch or fireplace, modernize by hanging several smaller mirrors. Create a grouping of mirrors with frames that have the same color, but different sizes, shapes and textures. Hang a large mirror between two windows to give the illusion of having more windows in the room.Freshen up accessories.Update your coffee table or entertainment center. These larger pieces are often the focal point of the room, so changing them out can put the entire room in a whole new light. Look for items that are both functional and easy to assemble. For example, Z-Line Designs furniture includes an instructional DVD with each item, so you can easily assemble pieces that are traditionally complicated to put together. Their ready-to-assemble mounts and stands for flat panel TVs can update any room in a flash. For more information, visit www.z-linedesigns.com .You will also need to decide where you will be placing your blinds, as this will help determine the type of blinds you want. If you plan to place your blinds outside, for example, rolling shutters may be your best option. These shutters are typically operated by a manual gear system, pull tapes or an electric motor that allows them to be rolled up and down when necessary. If you will be keeping them indoors, on the other hand, you will have more options to select from.Use mirrors to add visual interest.

Shutters and blinds can also help to soundproof your conservatory. Outdoor rolling shutters, for example, can reduce outdoor noise by 50%, helping to block out the sounds of traffic and noisy neighbors.

Solar shades are available in different opacity levels, usually from 3-14%; kind of cryptic numbers, I know. Unlike most any other type of window covering, these go on the outside. You can still see the outside world, watch the dogs run, watch the kids play, but those nosey neighbors and unwanted visitors can't see you at all through the screen. This form of blind also has the incredible ability to prevent excess heat from leaking through the glass panels and saving you a bundle on utilities.Units: About 48,000
